Wire Fraud Notice
Protect your funds before you wire.
Wire fraud is a serious risk in real estate transactions. Always verify instructions before sending money.
Always Verify by Phone
Before wiring funds, call a known Honest Escrow office number to confirm wire instructions. Use a number you already trust, such as a number from this website, your signed escrow documents, or a prior verified conversation.
Do Not Rely Only on Email
Email accounts can be compromised. Do not rely solely on emailed wire instructions, emailed account changes, or urgent messages asking you to send funds differently than previously instructed.
Watch for Red Flags
- New or changed wire instructions sent by email.
- Pressure to act immediately or secretly.
- Unexpected changes to bank name, account number, routing number, or recipient name.
- Email addresses that look similar but are not exactly correct.
If Something Feels Off
Stop before sending funds. Call Honest Escrow directly and confirm the instructions with your escrow officer. If funds were already sent and you suspect fraud, contact your bank immediately and notify your escrow officer.
